Rules and Regulations of Badminton

Badminton is an exciting and fast-paced sport governed by specific rules that ensure fair play and competition. Below are the essential rules for Badminton Singles:

Match Format

  • Game Structure: A match consists of the best of three games, each played to 21 points.
  • Scoring System:
    • A point is scored on every serve, regardless of which side served.
    • The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.
    • If the score reaches 20 all, the first side to gain a 2-point lead wins the game.
    • If the score reaches 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point wins the game.
  • The side that wins a game will serve first in the next game.

Serving Rules

  • Service Court:
    • At the beginning of the game (0-0) and when the server’s score is even, the server must serve from the right service court.
    • When the server’s score is odd, the server serves from the left service court.
  • Continuing Play:
    • If the server wins the rally, they score a point and continue serving from the alternate service court.
    • If the receiver wins the rally, they score a point and become the new server, serving from the appropriate service court (left if their score is odd, right if even).

These rules are designed to ensure a fair and competitive environment, allowing players to showcase their skills while adhering to the spirit of the game.
