BMX Freestyle is divided into five main disciplines, each offering unique challenges and requiring different skill sets:
- Street: Riders perform tricks on urban landscapes, utilizing rails, stairs, and ledges to execute creative maneuvers.
- Park: Competitions take place in specially designed skate parks where riders can showcase their agility on ramps and transitions.
- Vert: In this discipline, athletes ride on a halfpipe, performing tricks that utilize the vertical space for dramatic aerial stunts.
- Trails: Riders navigate through dirt jumps, focusing on speed and flow while executing tricks.
- Flatland: This discipline emphasizes technical trick sequences performed on flat surfaces, showcasing balance and control.
Olympic Recognition
In June 2017, the International Olympic Committee recognized BMX Freestyle as an official Olympic event, debuting at the 2020 Summer Olympics. This addition marks a significant milestone for the sport, highlighting its growing popularity and the talent of BMX riders worldwide.
Judging Criteria
In competitions, riders are evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Quality of Performance: The overall execution of tricks, including fluidity and style.
