Olympic weightlifting, often simply referred to as weightlifting, is a dynamic sport that showcases strength, technique, and athleticism. Athletes compete to lift maximum weights in two main lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk.
The Lifts
- Snatch: This is a wide-grip, one-move lift where the athlete lifts the barbell from the ground to overhead in one fluid motion. The snatch requires speed, flexibility, and precise technique.
Clean and Jerk: This lift consists of two parts. First, the athlete lifts the barbell to their shoulders in a movement called the clean. Next, they push the barbell overhead in a motion known as the jerk. This lift emphasizes strength and coordination.
